Pregnant and Parenting Students Are Protected

Title IX of the Federal Education Amendments Act protects pregnant and parenting students. It states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

If you are a pregnant or parenting student, your school cannot exclude you. Title IX protects students in all the academic, educational, extracurricular, athletic, and other programs or activities of schools. Discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, and parental status is prohibited.
